NERC Partners with NYSC, Trains NYSC Schedule Officers on Electricity Consumer Enlightenment

Towards promoting the enlightenment of electricity consumers about their rights and obligations, as well as the initiatives to improve customer service, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has organized a training for Schedule Officers of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

At the opening ceremony of the two-day training on Wednesday, NERC Commissioner, Consumer Affairs, Aisha Mahmud noted the imperatives of partnering with the NYSC to expand the reach of electricity consumers enlightenment.

She urged the Schedule Officers to work towards providing the needed support following the training to further enrich consumers with critical information that will result in better services.

Also speaking, the Deputy Director, Community Development Service and representative of the Director General of NYSC, Mr Solomon Arumemi, said the process for the partnership between NYSC and NERC started in 2024 and is meant to drive consumer enlightenment in the power sector to a higher level.

He assured that the partnership with NERC would be successful as the NYSC always delivers on such tasks. NERC Head, Consumer Enlightenment, Babatunde Zubair noted that the collaboration with NYSC is starting with a pilot phase focusing on the training of the Schedule Officers in the Federal Capital Territory.

Zubair added that those for more states will follow to ensure that electricity consumers are adequately sensitized on the customer protection regulations, the bill of rights, and all other enabling information that would help to improve electricity supply services.

The training had a technical session with presentations from NERC officials on customer protection regulations, the NERC forum offices, and energy efficiency, among others.
