NERC, justice ministry Enlightens Staff on FoI Compliance
Ensuring compliance is a key trait of any regulator, and in the quest to sustain its stance on keeping to standards, the Commission collaborated with the Federal Ministry of Justice to enlighten the members of staff on compliance with the Freedom of Information (FoI) Act.
The session enhanced the understanding of the FoI Act, ensuring compliance with transparency and accountability standards in the electricity sector.
Legal experts from the ministry facilitated the session, providing insights into the rights and responsibilities of public institutions under the law.
The Commission’s Secretary, Ada Ozoemena emphasized the Commission's commitment to openness and responsiveness in handling public requests for information.
The ministry commended NERC for prioritizing capacity building on FoI compliance, noting that such initiatives strengthen public trust in government institutions.
Participants engaged in interactive discussions on best practices for managing information requests and avoiding breaches of confidentiality while upholding citizens' right to access public records.
The training aligns with NERC's broader efforts to promote transparency and good governance within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.
