OFFICIALS FROM BENIN REPUBLIC ELECTRICITY REGULATOR ON STUDY TOUR AT NERC
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC today received a delegation of regulatory officials from the Autorité de Régulation de l'Électricité (ARE) Cotonou, Benin Republic on a study tour.
It is the national authority for the regulation of electricity in the West African country. The delegation led by the ARE President and President of the National Council for Regulation Benin Republic, Mr Edouard Dahome stated that ARE considered it appropriate to approach NERC to better understand and learn more about all the reforms underway in the electricity sector in Nigeria as well as the prospects.
Receiving the delegation, the NERC Chairman Sanusi Garba noted that NERC has existed for over a decade and has quite a lot to share with the Benin counterpart in terms of electricity regulation in Nigeria.
“I think there is a lot to share within the next few days. Hopefully, the Commission (NERC) will have the opportunity to visit your agency in Benin and also have an insight into the things you are doing,” Garba said.
The ARE delegation had knowledge-sharing sessions with the various Divisions of NERC, starting with the Legal, Licencing and Compliance Division; the Engineering and Performance Monitoring Division, and the Market Competition and Rates Division, all on the first day of their visit.
