The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has issued a new Metering Factsheet, a one-page guide on what every electricity customer needs to know about getting a meter and what to do when things go wrong.
What the factsheet covers:
Metering interventions in the NESI: the MAP Scheme, the NMMP, MAF, DISREP-IPF and the Presidential Metering Initiative, which starts in 2027 with 750,000 meters.
Your rights on metering, billing and disconnection: installation, repairs, reimbursement of meter costs, reconnection, compensation for wrongful disconnection, estimated billing and what to do when you relocate.
Dispute resolution: how to complain to your DisCo, escalate to your nearest NERC Forum Office and appeal to NERC. Customers in states with a State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC) take steps 2 and 3 to their SERC.
