Summit: NERC Harps On Promoting Distributed Energy Resources

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has harped on the promotion of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and Embedded Generation.
Speaking during a technical session of the Summit On Accelerating Scale-Up of Renewable and Distributed Energy Resources in Nigeria on Monday, the Vice Chairman of NERC, Dr. Musiliu Oseni highlighted the role of NERC promoting DER and Embedded Generation in Nigeria as an avenue to boost access to electricity for both the underserved and unserved communities in the country. He assured that NERC would continue to engage with more stakeholders through platforms like the summit while providing more regulatory guidance to increase the integration of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix.
Also at a Stakeholders’ Panel Session, Dr Oseni led a discussion on identifying gaps and de-risking embedded generation and franchising to support the attainment of set targets.
Other panel members spoke on the incoming Abuja-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline expected to boost gas resources for power generation, especially in northern Nigeria when it comes on stream in 2025.
