NERC Leads Review of Nigeria’s Power Sector in Second Quarter


The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) hosted the second-quarter Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Monday, 29 June 2026.

The meeting brought together key industry players, including the Honourable Minister of Power, Mr Joseph Tegbe, the Special Adviser to the President on Power and Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Power Sector Reset and Restoration, Mr Rilwan Lanre Babalola, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Power, Mr Mahmuda Mamman.

viser on Power, Mr. Lanre Babalola, highlighted the importance of strengthening the sector’s commercial viability.

Earlier in his opening remarks, NERC Chairman, Dr. Musiliu Oseni, stressed the need for stronger collaboration, regulatory compliance, improved customer service, and greater transparency.

Highlights of the meeting include:

  • Review of the NESI performance in the second quarter.
  • Progress and updates on customer compensation
  • Grid stability and SCADA deployment
  • Transmission infrastructure and market remittances
  • Status of various metering rollout initiatives including the Distribution Sector Recovery Programme (DISREP).

Stakeholders acknowledged progress made and agreed on the need for sustained reforms, stronger enforcement, and increased investment to improve the reliability and financial sustainability of Nigeria’s electricity sector.
