NERC Holds South-East Regional Sensitisation on Curbing Vandalism of Power Infrastructure in the NESI

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), in collaboration with the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) of GIZ, successfully convened the South-East Regional Sensitisation Workshop on Curbing Vandalism of Power Infrastructure in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, in Umuahia, Abia State.

The workshop focused on developing sustainable strategies to address the persistent challenge of vandalism within Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure and enhance the reliability and sustainability of power supply. Discussions underscored the critical importance of strengthened collaboration among key stakeholders, including electricity sector operators, security agencies, traditional institutions, and host communities.

The event brought together a broad spectrum of stakeholders from across the power sector, reflecting a collective commitment to tackling the menace of infrastructure vandalism and mitigating its adverse effects on electricity service delivery, economic growth, and national development.

Participants included representatives of the Honourable Minister of Power, State Electricity Regulatory Commissions (SERCs), Traditional Rulers, Managing Directors and Executive Directors of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN); as well as representatives of Distribution Companies (DisCos) operating within the South-East region and other critical stakeholders in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
