NERC Engages Civil Society and Consumer Protection Groups to Strengthen Collaboration with Subnational Electricity Regulators

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has convened a capacity-building workshop for Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Consumer Protection Groups (CPGs) in Ibadan.

The workshop underscored the importance of sustained collaboration between NERC and State Electricity Regulators (SERs), highlighting their complementary roles in enhancing consumer satisfaction, strengthening service delivery standards, and deepening regulatory effectiveness at both federal and subnational levels.

Highpoints of the engagement include:

  • Emphasis was placed on the complementary roles of federal and subnational regulators in improving consumer satisfaction and service delivery.
  • Active participation from SERs, CSOs, and Consumer Protection Groups demonstrated strong stakeholder interest and inclusivity by NERC.

The workshop reinforced efforts to deepen consumer protection frameworks amid Nigeria’s transition to a multi-tier electricity market.
