NERC Deepens Media Engagement Through Capacity Strengthening Workshop for Energy Reporters


 

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) held a three-day Capacity Strengthening Workshop for Electricity Reporters in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to enhance journalists' understanding of regulatory activities in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) and promote accurate, balanced, and data-driven reporting.

The workshop, holding from 15th-17th July, 2026, brought together electricity correspondents and media practitioners for sessions on the transition to subnational electricity markets, stakeholder engagement, consumer protection, strategic communication, and evidence-based reporting.

In his opening remarks, the Commissioner, Research and Data Analytics Division, Dr. Fouad Animashaun expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to engage with the media and emphasized the importance of stakeholder management noting that it is fundamental to the success of the subnational electricity market in Nigeria.

Participants also received technical training from NERC's Research and Data Analytics team on interpreting industry data, statutory reports, and performance trends. Interactive sessions provided opportunities to engage directly with NERC officials on regulatory developments, market reforms, and consumer issues.
