NERC Deepens Cybersecurity Awareness with ONSA-Led Digital Safety Session
As part of activities marking the 2025 Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on Monday hosted another interactive session featuring presentations delivered by officials from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
NERC Vice Chairman, Dr. Musiliu Oseni, underscored the importance of cybersecurity sensitisation and encouraged participants to pay close attention while embracing best practices in the use of information technology to strengthen the Commission’s cyber resilience.
The event featured two technical presentations. In the first, Mr. Nasir Iyima, Head of Critical National Information Infrastructure at the ONSA’s National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre, delivered an overview of Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) protection and the Target Operating Model.
The second presentation, by Mr. Daniel Onyekpeze, Head of Incident Handling at the Nigeria Computer Emergency Response Team (ngCERT), focused on ngCERT’s role in managing cyber incidents, including reporting channels and response procedures.
NERC’s Director, Stakeholder Management, Maryam Yaya Abubakar, expressed appreciation to the ONSA team for the sensitisation, which is a priority for the Commission.
NERC’s Head of ICT, Saidu Lawal, in his closing remarks, urged staff to remain vigilant and maintain a high level of cybersecurity awareness in their daily operations.
The 2025 Cybersecurity Awareness Month runs throughout November with the theme: “Securing Our Digital Future: Awareness, Responsibility, and Resilience.”
