NERC Conducts Emergency Response Simulation to Enhance Safety Preparedness
In line with its commitment to safety and regulatory excellence, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has successfully conducted a comprehensive emergency response simulation at its headquarters in Abuja.
The exercise was carried out in collaboration with key emergency and security agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit of the Nigerian Police Force, the Federal Fire Service, the Red Cross, and the Department of State Services.
Led by the NERC Safety Umpire and Commissioner for Corporate Services, Mr. Nathan Shatti, the simulation involved all safety officers and staff.
Activities included the rapid evacuation of building occupants to a designated muster point, a successful headcount, fire incident management, victim care, and a thorough building sweep by security personnel.
Mr. Shatti emphasized that safety remains a top priority for the Commission and the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
He noted that such drills would continue to be a routine part of NERC’s operations, encouraging staff to apply the knowledge gained to real-life situations.
“This exercise reflects our proactive approach to ensuring the safety of our personnel and stakeholders. We appreciate the support of our emergency response partners, and we will continue to strengthen our preparedness,” he said.
