ICPC Inaugurates Members of NERC ACTU

Addressing staff at the inauguration with the theme: Upholding Integrity and Enforcing a Zero Tolerance Policy for Corruption within NERC, the NERC Chairman, Sanusi Garba, represented by the Vice Chairman, Dr Musiliu Oseni commended the ICPC for stamping corrupt practices in agencies at the very beginning.

Charging the new NERC ACTU members, he said: “You should know that being transparent goes a long way in making a bigger change in the Nigerian economy and NERC has zero tolerance for corruption. You have been chosen to serve not only NERC but the country and to champion this crusade, and transparency begins with you.”

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Musa Aliyu, represented by the Acting Director, System Study and Review Department (SSR), Mr. Olusegun Adigun, commended NERC for supporting the establishment of ACTU, a platform of ICPC instituted across agencies to curb corruption in the workplace.

“It is hoped that with the inauguration, the unit will be empowered to deliver on its mandate, including periodic sensitization of staff on corruption issues, developing and reviewing of ethics for staff and compliance with the same, among others,” he said.

The ICPC Head of Anti-Corruption Unit, Barrister Nkem Ezenwa while administering the Oath of Allegiance to the nine members of the team, stated the essence of the oath. “It is for you to understand the seriousness of the job you are about to do and to make you dedicated to the task that is ahead.”

The ICPC Chairman also presented the ACTU operational manual to the NERC Chairman to guide the NERC ACTU members.

Chairman of the NERC ACTU and DGM Compliance, Hauwa Yakubu, in her inaugural address, assured that the team was committed to upholding the highest standards and integrity in the organisation.

“We pledge to lead by example and ensure that the unit operates with diligence, fairness and with every commitment to the principles to get NERC to the ranking that it deserves.”

In a presentation, the Deputy Director, SSR at ICPC, Clement Obaniyi, explained the objective of setting up ACTU, especially in entrenching ethics and integrity in the workplace.

NERC Commissioner, Legal, Licencing and Compliance, Dafe Akpeneye, in a vote of thanks said, “You will note that NERC will make your work easy because we have zero tolerance for corruption in the way we do our things. We are living up to our mandate which is ensuring that this country has increased its electricity supply capacity, and we have improved energy access as the overall driving motivation.”
