Zanzibar Utilities Regulatory Authority (ZURA) Undertakes Study Tour to NERC
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) hosted a delegation from the Zanzibar Utilities Regulatory Authority (ZURA) on a study tour aimed at strengthening regulatory collaboration and facilitating knowledge exchange on electricity sector regulation.
The delegation was received by the Commissioner for Stakeholder Management, Hajiya Aisha Mahmud, who welcomed the team to the Commission and reaffirmed NERC's commitment to supporting peer regulatory institutions across Africa through the sharing of knowledge, experiences, and best practices.
Speaking during the visit, the ZURA delegation explained that the study tour was designed to provide firsthand insight into NERC's regulatory framework and operational practices. The delegation identified NERC's Mini-Grid Regulation as one of the primary reasons for the visit, describing it as one of the most comprehensive and successful regulatory frameworks for mini-grids in Africa.
Officials from NERC made presentations on the Commission's regulatory structure, key regulations, market development initiatives, and the implementation of the Mini-Grid Regulation. Interactive sessions provided an opportunity for both institutions to exchange ideas, discuss common regulatory challenges, and explore practical approaches to strengthening electricity regulation in their respective jurisdictions.
