AfDB Delegation Visits NERC, Provides Updates on Desert to Power Initiative


The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) received a delegation from the African Development Bank (AfDB) on a working visit aimed at providing updates on key electrification initiatives and exploring opportunities for deeper collaboration in advancing Nigeria’s energy access objectives.

The AfDB delegation was led by Mr. Chigoziri Egeruoh, who briefed the Commission on the progress of the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP). He highlighted key achievements recorded under the project and ongoing efforts to improve electricity access for underserved and unserved communities across the country.

The delegation also introduced the Commission to AfDB’s Desert to Power initiative, a transformative renewable energy programme designed to accelerate the deployment of clean energy solutions across Africa. In turn, the Commission reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with development partners to support sustainable electricity access, improve service delivery, and advance Nigeria’s energy transition agenda.

Key highlights included:

- Update on the progress and achievements of the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP)

- Continued efforts to expand electricity access to underserved and unserved communities

- Introduction of AfDB’s Desert to Power renewable energy programme

- Focus on Mini Grids, Energizing Health, and Energizing Education as key intervention areas

- Exploration of collaborative opportunities to support Nigeria’s electrification and energy transition goals

The visit reaffirmed the commitment of both institutions to strengthening cooperation, promoting sustainable energy solutions, and advancing universal access to reliable electricity in Nigeria.
