Electricity Safety Managers Review Notes, Target Lower Accident Rates
Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Managers and Performance Managers from GenCos, TCN, and DisCos gathered in Abuja for a critical review session aimed at reducing accident rates across the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
The three-day biannual NESI HSE Managers’ meeting, hosted by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), was themed: “Repositioning NESI for Accident-free Operations: A Shared Responsibility.”
Speaking at the opening session, Dr Abu Kadiri, Head of Technical Regulation Division at NERC, urged participants to embrace honest, solution-driven discussions: “If we have recorded success, it is for all of us; and if we have failed, it is for us too.”
Key highlights included:
Review of significant incident records and safety compliance status
Evaluation of HSE budget implementation
Strategies for accident prevention and reduction
Legal oversight in accident investigation and compliance
Over 50 HSE and Performance Managers, alongside Chief Technical Officers from 12 DisCos, 28 GenCos, TCN, and NERC, participated in this workshop to strengthen safety culture across NESI.
