Bauchi Electricity Consumers Engaged on Rights, Obligations at NERC Town Hall Meeting

In June 2025, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) held a three-day town hall meeting in Bauchi, Bauchi State, as part of its ongoing efforts to engage electricity consumers and promote awareness of their rights and obligations.

Led by NERC Commissioner for Stakeholder Management, Mrs. Aisha Mahmud, the event marked the culmination of a series of community engagement activities. These included a roadshow through Bauchi town to raise awareness and a live radio session where NERC officials addressed public inquiries on resolving electricity-related complaints.

Targeted at consumers within the Jos Electricity Distribution PLC (JED) franchise area, the town hall served as a platform to educate residents on key provisions of the Electricity Act 2023 (Amended), particularly the decentralization of electricity regulation and the transfer of oversight responsibilities to state governments.

A dedicated session was also held for customers to lodge complaints, which were addressed on-site by JED customer service representatives under the supervision of NERC.
