Summit: NERC Gets Commitments On Renewable, Distributed Energy Scale-Up

As the Summit On Accelerating Scale-Up of Renewable and Distributed Energy Resources in Nigeria came to a close on Tuesday, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) got commitments from participants to push for the scale-up of renewable and distributed energy.
Participants at the summit were drawn from the public and private sectors, distribution companies, development finance institutions, renewable energy and consultancy firms.
The participants advocated for renewable energy certificates, the promotion of carbon credits, and prioritizing the mini grid and distributed energy regulations.
Presenting a recap of the summit, NERC Deputy General Manager, Abba Terab said the summit was a learning curve for NERC and the Distribution Companies.
“This is the beginning of more collaborations for those present here to see that we deliver renewable energy and distributed energy in the power system. NERC will take note of all the feedback and requests, especially on the mini-grid regulations, and provide feedback. NERC will also work on the relevant regulations in line with the business rule and come up with the reviewed regulations.”
Delivering a vote of thanks, NERC Commissioner, Planning, Research and Strategy, Dr. Yusuf Ali, on behalf of the chairman, thanked all the participants for the good work they have done throughout the summit, including the donor agencies for the renewable energy gathering.
“We have been able to learn a lot from the field and we make regulations to be beneficial with issues of priority. The most important thing that has happened here is networking, which this summit has presented just as potential opportunities have been showcased. Everybody deserves a round of applause and we look forward to further engagement,” concluded Dr. Ali.
