NERC Holds 3-day Workshop on Technical Codes for Operators in NESI

A 3-day Workshop on Technical Codes for Operators in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) has commenced. During his remarks, NERC Chairman, Sanusi Garba urged participants to take advantage of the sessions by sharing knowledge and ensuring the entrenchment of compliance with the codes to mitigate accidents and create an environment where system collapse becomes a thing of the past.
The Chairman then expressed hope that participants would discuss the Internet of Things (IoT) and more advanced metering options which have been captured in the revised grid code, because technology has the potential to create not only improvements in the sector but also bring prices down.
On his part, the NERC Commissioner, Engineering & Performance Monitoring, Engr. Chidi Ike told participants that the sessions would deep dive into the codes to ensure that, in particular, the regional operators of TCN were brought up to date with all the requirements. This he believes will ensure that participants gain a better understanding of their respective responsibilities. He added that once participants understand the operational requirements, they would not revert to the status quo.
