The Commissioner, Engineering and Performance Monitoring
About Dr. Chidi Ike
Dr. Chidi Ike’s engineering career started in the early nineties in a private firm where he gained expertise in control engineering, constructing power control panels for industries, including AMF panels. Chidi’s career in the power sector started in 1992 with the then NEPA with experiences that spanned transmission, distribution, and generation subsectors. Chidi was an instructor at the NEPA Training Institutes, training new staff on protection, control, and metering at the Ijora and Kainji training schools from 1994 to 1996. Chidi was instrumental in the creation/implementation of the electricity market trading points (boundaries) that foreshadowed the privatisation of the power industry in Nigeria. Chidi was also a member of the Revenue Cycle Management (RCM). This unit conducted a pilot exercise on the commercialisation of electricity in Nigeria using select Districts in different DisCos between 1998 and 2004. He was a pioneer staff of the Market Operations Unit of TCN that set up market rules for the Nigerian electricity market. In 2007 Chidi joined Geometric Power and played an active role during the power plant development and financing processes. Chidi Ike joined the Presidential Taskforce (PTFP) on power in 2010 as technical support from NEXANT (USAID) as an adviser on transmission and distribution. In 2011, under technical support from NIAF (DFID), Chidi served in the PTFP as the Senior Performance Manager (head) Distribution to manage the performance of the 11 Distribution Companies. Chidi Ike designed and implemented the first Nigeria power sector stress test that determined the capacity/capability of the three segments of the power delivery value chain: generation, transmission, and distribution. From 2013, still under the technical support from NIAF, Chidi served as the SPM Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in the PTFP. He held that role until NIAF transferred him to support the Kaduna State power plant initiative. He had that role until 2015, when he joined CRISIL International Infrastructure Advisory (a company of Standard and Poor (S&P)). As an associate consultant, he carried out data quality review (DQR) and data quality audit for the electricity sector of Ghana under the auspices of MiDA supported by the MCC of the US as a donor agency support for the government of Ghana. He also performed a similar role for the government of Liberia. Chidi Ike Joined NDPHC in 2016 and has carried out the responsibilities of managing the development of transmission substations as the Head Substations. Chidi Ike was also the General manager of Corporate Planning from 2020 to 2022. As GM Corporate Planning, Chidi developed, for the first time, key performance management measures (KPIs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to guide processes and operations in NDPHC Chidi is a 1989 graduate of the University of Nigeria Nsukka with a B. Eng. in Electrical Engineering. He also has a PGD and MBA in technology management for ATBU Bauchi. Chidi also has an MPhil in Engineering Management and a PhD in Engineering Management from Walden University USA. Chidi Ike’s 31 years post-graduation professional experience spans all the electricity delivery value chain sectors, including engineering management. He has designed and patented many engineering products, including the automatic voltage selector switch used in TCN.
