On December 1, 2025, Aisha Mahmud was reappointed to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to serve a second term. As the Commissioner for the Stakeholder Management Division, she leads the Commission’s engagement strategies to ensure the electricity industry remains responsive to the needs of all Nigerians.

Commissioner Mahmud previously led the Consumer Affairs Division before its transition to the Stakeholder Management Division. Her continued tenure provides essential continuity in NERC’s mission to promote an investor-friendly industry and an efficient market structure that meets Nigeria’s needs for safe, adequate, reliable, and affordable electricity.

Career at NERC

Commissioner Mahmud is a seasoned utility regulator with extensive expertise in tariff design, rates, and market compliance. Her career at NERC began in 2007, and she has since held several key technical and leadership positions within the Commission:

• Assistant General Manager & Head, Tariff & Rates (May 2018 – Nov 2020)
• Principal Manager, Tariff & Rates (July 2013 – May 2018)
• Manager, Market Analysis and Compliance (June 2007 – May 2010)

Prior to her tenure at the Commission, she served as an Assistant Manager at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in 2007 and held administrative and commercial roles at the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs, Karama Industrial Ventures, and United Bank for Africa (UBA).

With a career spanning over two decades across both the private and public sectors, Commissioner Mahmud has developed specialization in electricity regulation, strategy, and financial analysis. She has also undergone extensive international training in:
